Corks Out wins Champagne Retailer of the Year 2013

Corks Out Independent Wine Merchant beats Sainsburys and Wine Rack to become Champagne Retailer of the Year 2013.

Corks Out Independent Wine Merchant was shortlisted alongside the big chains Sainsbury and Wine Rack.  The glittering Drinks Retailing Awards Ceremony took place at The Dorchester in London on Tuesday 5th February, with host Olly Smith.  Corks Out stood out as the overall winner of this prestigious award and add it their list of many other awards over the past 9 years.

The judges were particularly impressed that Cheshire based Independent chain Corks Out has increased its focus on Champagne, taking its range from 45 to more than 100, listing many smaller growers and adding some larger-format bottles to its lists. A key part of the strategy has been educating customers about why Champagne is special through tastings and dinners run in conjunction with producers, helping to celebrate the nuances of style between Champagne houses instead of promoting the region as a generic brand. All this activity has seen Corks Out grow its quality Champagne sales at a time when other retailers have been relying on cheaper sparkling wines.

The Corks Out team were excited to be shortlisted but we knew it would be tough against the big retailers out there and we are over the moon to win the award, it’s the first time we have really been recognised for our Champagne offering.  The whole team’s knowledge helps our customers to find out a little more, rather than just the brand.
