HP is re-entering the smartphone market, promising devices with a “differentiated experience.” Does this suggest that the company is planning to launch an Android-powered handset?
Speaking to The Indian Express (check out website here), Yam Su Yin, HP’s Senior Director Consumer PC and Media Tablets Asia Pacific, said, “The answer is yes but I cannot give a timetable. It would be silly if we say no. HP has to be in the game.”
The exec adds, “Being late you have to create a different set of proposition. There are still things that can be done. Its not late. When HP has a smartphone, it will give a differentiated experience.”
She didn’t mention if HP is planning to use Android in their re-entry to the smartphone market. However, since Android is dominating the market with devices such as the Samsung Galaxy S4 (check out Samsung Galaxy S4 here), it would make sense for HP to try and do the same.
Of course, HP using Android the next time around is still a mystery. We’ll just have to wait and see what they have to offer.
