Jelly Bean now runs 40.5% of Android devices

Have you been wondering how many Android devices such as the Samsung Galaxy S4 run Jelly Bean? According to Google on Android Developers, as of the 1st of August, Jelly Bean now accounts for 40.5% of Android devices.

Android 4.1 and Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean) now runs on the majority of Android device at 40.5%. Android 2.3 to Android 2.3.2 and Android 2.3.3 to Android 2.3.7 (Gingerbread) is the second largest at 33.1%. Android 4.0.3 to Android 4.0.4 (Ice Cream Sandwich) is the third largest at 22.5%.

Android Developers said, “Data collected during a 14-day period ending on August 1, 2013. Any versions with less than 0.1% distribution are not shown.”

In terms of the data collected, Google said, “Beginning in April, 2013, these charts are now built using data collected from each device when the user visits the Google Play Store. Previously, the data was collected when the device simply checked-in to Google servers. We believe the new data more accurately reflects those users who are most engaged in the Android and Google Play ecosystem.”
