Labour Party: Douglas Alexander's response to the Harrington Review

Douglas Alexander, Labour's Shadow Work and Pensions Secretary, in response to the Harrington Review, said:

"Labour created the Employment and Support Allowance because we wanted to end the system where some people were simply parked on incapacity benefits when they actually would be healthier and better off if they were in work.

"We will obviously examine the details of this report but there should be a rigorous and well monitored process that ensures people who need support are able to get it and people who are fully fit for work are not allowed to claim sickness benefit."
