Labour Party: Duncan Smith's statement shows the chaos at the heart of Government - Cooper

Yvette Cooper MP, Labour's Shadow Work and Pensions Secretary, responding to Iain Duncan Smith's statement to the Work and Pensions Select Committee that he did not recognise the widely reported £4 billion cuts from out of work benefits, said:

"What on earth is going on in this Government? One minute the Chancellor is telling the BBC there will be £4 billion extra cuts in welfare, the next minute Iain Duncan Smith is saying he doesn't recognise these figures at all.

"This shows the chaos at the heart of Government. By conducting these rows in public they are scaring a lot of vulnerable people who now have no idea how much more they will lose.

"Iain Duncan Smith said today he wants to protect people who need the most help. But has he not noticed that cuts George Osborne has already announced hit the poorest hardest?"
