Jim Murphy MP, Labour's Shadow Defence Secretary, said today in light of the coalition's continuing refusal to reconsider changes to forces' pensions:
"We oppose this measure because its impact will increase year on year - long after the deficit has been paid off.
"Why should men and women serving in Afghanistan now receive poorer pensions in future?
"Why should war widows have their entitlements hit year on year, when the economy has returned to strong growth?
"This is about an ever growing hit to support for our armed forces in the long term, not cutting the deficit in the short term.
"This is a breach of trust. The Government should listen to the forces and their families and rethink their dogmatic approach."
