Labour Party: Tories have let the cat out of the bag on tuition fees - Denham

John Denham MP, Labour's Shadow Business Secretary, responding to comments made by Tory MP John Stevenson about tuition fees said:

"The Tories have let the cat out of the bag by finally admitting that their hugely unfair increases in fees will mean fewer people will go to university. This is a widespread view in the Tory party. When they are pressed it is always someone else’s children that will be put off not theirs.”

David Cameron has ignored the warnings of organisations like the Sutton Trust, the champion of fair access; David Cameron says the huge increases in tuition fees changes are fair and will not put students off going to university. This has been completely blown out of the water today by one of his own MPs.

"We oppose the Tory-led Government's 80% cut to university funding and the huge increases in fees which are not fair, not necessary and not good for universities or students.  It will be a huge burden on our future generation. We need a Government that supports people into education not one that turns its backs on their hopes and aspirations."
