Previous leaks hinted the affordable version of the iPhone will be called the iPhone Light. A more recent leak shows the back of the device bearing US FCC and European CE markings, suggesting that we will soon see the device be officially unveiled. Now, a more current photo shows what the device will be ultimately called. It shows that Apple plans to call the cheaper iPhone the “iPhone 5C.”
The leaked photo was posted on WeiPhon, a Chinese forum. The photo shows a box filled with what looks to be packaging for the device. The packaging shows the name “iPhone 5C.” So this may be what the device is called upon launch.
A launch date has also been leaked. iFun, a German site, reports that the iPhone 5C will be launched by Apple on the 6th of September.
Previous reports claim that the iPhone 5C will be around the same size of the iPhone 5S. It will, however, sport lower specs, a plastic casing, and will come in various colours. If these rumours are true, this would be the first time the Cupertino firm releases an iPhone sporting a plastic casing in various colour options. Normally, iPhones are clad in aluminium and come in only two colour options, black and white.
Since Apple has neither confirmed nor has it denied the report, treat this like just any other rumour for now. We’ll be keeping an eye out for further announcements from the iPhone maker.
