LG G2 Balloon event injures 20

LG launched a G2 balloon PR event in Korean. The idea was to allow people to win a free G2 coupon attached to balloon once the balloon gets to the ground. The G2 is the follow-up to the Optimus G and Optimus G Pro smartphone. Unfortunately, people at the event resorted to using BB guns to shoot down the balloons, which resulted in 20 injured.

According to The Korea Times, “LG Electronics canceled outdoor promotional events for its latest smartphone G2 after some 20 people suffered injuries in a messy event in Seoul, Friday.

It added, “The accident occurred when people tried to steal the coupons by popping the balloons with BB guns.”

On Twitter, a blogger wrote, “Some were using BB guns to shoot the balloons. As far as I know, there were only some 20 security guards. LG should have placed more security personnel as the event was already promoted via social networks such as Facebook, Twitter and leading local portals. Some of the injured were hospitalized.”

LG said in a statement, “We canceled events offering free G2 smartphones that had been scheduled in major cities nationwide, including Busan, due to safety concerns.”

LG added, “We will provide them with proper medical treatment as we are responsible for the event.”
