Off duty Special Constable assaulted whilst attempting to split up fight

We’re appealing for the public’s help to identify a man we’d like to speak to following an assault on one of our Special Constables.

The incident is reported to have happened on 12th June on Whitechapel opposite the Met Quarter at 7pm when an off duty officer, who was walking past at the time, witnessed two teenage girls fighting. The officer has attempted to detain one of the girls when three men have then assaulted the officer.

Two of the men made off, however the officer was able to detain and arrest the third on suspicion of assaulting a police officer. Another man was later identified and again arrested. Both have been released under investigation.

Enquiries continue to establish the identity of the third outstanding offender. However, we believe the man in the CCTV could have vital information to help with our investigations.

Anyone that recognises him is asked to contact police @MerPolCC or call 101 quoting 19100306406.
