While I have been digging out my winter wardrobe and shopping for the perfect winter boot to go with my much needed aviator jacket, the biggest event of the season has been taking place.
The best designers from all over the world have been at London fashion week showcasing the latest new trends for SS11.
Its hard to believe that most of us are already thinking about what to wear next summer but with all the gorgeous new silhouettes, colours and prints we have just seen I am already wanting to skip a season.
With the main attention being on want clothes to wear next season, what is the new big trend for SS11 jewellery?
The key message from the catwalk was simple statement pieces. There was no fuss just easy to wear gorgeous oversized jewellery.
Betty Jackson really nailed this trend with her super glam work wear inspired by tropical landscapes, bold botanical drawings and tropical birds.
She accessorized her lush garments with oversized bead necklaces and bangles in the richest SS11 colours.
The big jewellery colours to look out for will be bold greens, electric blues, soft pinks, purples and citrus colours teamed with lots and lots of gold!
If you love the bangle look then its all about layering and mixing the colours for spring/summer, do not be afraid to experiment. The big presence was the oversized gold wrist cuff worn on each wrist as seen by Amanda Wakeley, this truly finished off the outfits and looked effortlessly cool.
Issa was a favourite of mine with her bold colours and use of strong prints. She beautifully accessorised with oversized gold earrings which really finished off the garments giving her collection an eastern European feel.
Feathers still had a presence on the catwalk whether it was a large statement neckpiece or a delicate necklace.
Henry Holland interpreted this into little fluffy balls of feathers for earrings, these looked great in bright colours teamed with his 70’s inspired collection.
Some one new to me and I think a great ambassador for jewellery trends is Maria Francesca Pepe. She started her own label showcasing jewellery-wear in London, Milan and Paris. Her belief is that jewellery becomes the main focus of an outfit rather than just an accessory to finish the final look
Maria’s SS11 collection mixes large religious crucifixes with ready to wear chains with a slightly romantic twist.
With inspiration coming from Sunbury Market to hardware shops this lady really has created something fresh for SS11.
I think next season is going to be great and full of easy to pull off jewellery which is a breath of fresh air for us fashionistas.
If like most you cant afford these fabulous catwalk pieces get yourself down the high street, Accessorize and Topshop are always spot on creating these fabulous new trends at affordable prices.
Take on these new trends and freshen up your wardrobe and you’ll be ready for spring/summer.
Maria Francesca Pepe has managed to successfully bridge the gap between clothing and jewellery by creating a kind of hybrid she calls “jewellerywear”
