Detectives are appealing for information after a man attended hospital with a gunshot injury in Birkenhead, Wirral on Monday 21st January.
At around 5.45pm, a man in his 30s attended hospital with an injury to his buttock. Enquiries are ongoing to establish the exact circumstances of the incident, including what caused the injury and the exact location of the incident.
The victim was treated at hospital for his injuries, which are not thought to be life threatening.
Detective Inspector Jacky Fitzpatrick said: “We’re still in the early stages of this investigation and are looking to hear from anyone who saw or heard shots being fired at around 5.30pm on Monday in the Beechwood area of Prenton, Birkenhead.
“We have not confirmed exactly where this incident happened, so are continuing to carry out house to house, CCTV and forensic enquiries to identify those involved. All information provided to us by members of the public will be acted on swiftly to establish the full circumstances of what happened.
“We have recovered a dark coloured Vauxhall Insignia car that we believe the victim was taken to hospital in but are keen to speak to anyone that also saw the car in the area around the time of the shooting as we believe this could help us piece together the exact details of what happened.
“Those using and carrying guns put themselves and others at risk and I’d urge anyone to think twice about the consequences having or firing a gun could cause. Officers continue to patrol the area to carry out enquiries and to provide reassurance, so please come and talk to us so we can investigate fully and make our communities safer.”
