Rising energy bills 'forcing families to cut back on food'

Almost half of families are cutting back on the amount they spend on food because of the rising cost of gas and electricity, research by has found. 

And more than four fifths (82%) say they are worried about how they will heat their home this winter, due to sharp rises in energy bills. 27% have cut back on other household bills in order to make more room in their budget. 

But the comparison website said that many people are paying more than they need to because they haven't switched energy supplier - at an average of £286 a year per household, or a combined £1.4 billion. 20% of respondents to the survey said they have never switched provider.
