The fascination with rude street names gained mileage in 2011 as The Inbetweeners took part in a Rude Road Trip for Comic Relief, and the media have since compiled national lists, but never a Derby specific version- That is until now.
Clarke Residential, based in Ilkeston, has compiled a list of local funny street/place names in the area and has disagreed that the properties carry any less value due to an unusual label.
Director at the company, Daniel Clarke, said: “After being in the property business for so long, we at Clarke Residential know that properties carry their own value and speak for themselves, and are not hindered by any funny or rudely-named streets nearby”
Clarke Residential’s list of funny street/place names is below:
1. Fanny Avenue
2. Spanker Lane
3. Prathall Lane
4. Cock Shut Lane
8. Cockpit Hill
9. Traffic Street
10. Lara Croft Way
According to Land Registry data, the report also found 60% of home hunters admitted they would be unlikely to buy a property on a street with an unfortunate name.
The original report focused on such areas as York, Whitby and Durham, finding that properties were significantly less, providing an option for first time buyers or those struggling to get one foot on the property ladder.
Dr Geoff Ellis, Expert Statistician, revealed that over 70% of property prices in the report are significantly cheaper than other properties within a quarter of a mile radius.
Daniel Clarke, added: “We would encourage vendors selling properties on rudely named streets to pay more attention to the internal and external areas of the property to attract the right buyer. We would also encourage a professional agent to accompany prospective buyers around the property who have expert knowledge of the surrounding areas and local amenities”
