Phablet smartphones are becoming more and more popular, and as a result a number of new models have recently been released by a variety of manufacturers. However, Samsung's Galaxy Note 2 remains the most popular device in the phablet niche, and has achieved plenty of praise and millions of sales since it was released last September.

The success of the Galaxy Note 2 and the popularity of larger screened devices has of course led to plenty of speculation and rumours about the next instalment of the series. Recently, GSM Arena reported that a Korean publication has leaked specifications of the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 ahead of its announcement which is set to take place in September.

A number of the features of the device appear to coincide with previous rumours. For example, the devices is said to include a super AMOLED display with a resolution of 1080p and measurements of between 5.7 and 6 inches. Additionally, a 13 megapixel camera is includes and either a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chipset or Exynos 5 octa-core processor, hinting at LTE-Advanced connectivity. The phone is also said to sport a very thin profile of just 8 millimetres, and a relatively light weight of just 138 g.

The original Samsung Galaxy Note has 1 GB of RAM, which is doubled to 2 GB with the Galaxy Note 2. The leaked specifications for the Galaxy Note 3 suggest 3 GB of RAM, surpassing any smartphone which is currently on the market. It also makes sense if this feature turns out to be included, as Samsung will no doubt be keen to ensure that the Galaxy Note 3 offers the best possible performance.
