The ‘phablet’ Galaxy Note was a huge hit but it didn’t come without criticism of being too ‘huge’. The popularity of larger tablets and big screen phones is growing but the Note was just that little bit like trying to stuff a netbook in your pocket. The new Samsung Galaxy Note II is set to be slightly smaller, more powerful, faster and have similar specs to the Galaxy SIII, which should make it much more of a hit than the first edition.
The Galaxy Note II is set to have a ‘flexible’ 5.5” screen that will have the AMOLED technology for clarity and precision that we’ve come to know and love about Samsung’s gadgets. With a 1280 x 720 resolution and the quad-core Exynos processor as well as 13MP camera and a 1.5GB RAM it’s going to be one of the most powerful and impressive tablet phones out there. Running on ICS with Jelly Bean overlaid (4.1) it will be at the peak of what’s hot right now. As Samsung cannot do anything wrong, apart from in Apple Inc’s mind, there is nothing really holding the Note II back. Its screen is large but not mini-iPad large, and it is just that more tablet-ish compared to phones with 4” screens.
Some might think that the 5.5” screen might be too large but with the Galaxy SIII being 4.65” and other phones having smaller screens, as well as the larger Galaxy Tabs having 7+” the Note is perfectly placed to bridge the gap between a true phone and a true tablet – hence the name ‘phablet’. The rumours of the mini-iPad being launched at the same September release date as the iPhone 5 will obviously entice buyers into snapping up both new devices at the same time to replace their iPhone 4S and iPad 2 but the Samsung faithful are going to love the new edition of the Galaxy Note II to add to their cache.
The Note II is set to be released on the 29th August 2012, just a month before the iPhone 5 and mini-iPad, so it could well cause people in the hunt for a new tablet/phone to grab the new Samsung as soon as it comes out. With Apple and Samsung locked in sales figure battles the release dates are perfectly judged to affect one another but many people might think that the Galaxy units are too similar compared to the iPhone which is essentially only one unit that is made better and better each year. This is rather than the Samsung phones that are slightly different but branded as completely new devices.
