Samsung Galaxy S4 Active Revealed In Blue Variant

In recent weeks, several new versions of the Samsung Galaxy S4 were announced by the South Korean manufacturer. One of these is the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active, which is a waterproof and dust proof version of the company's latest flagship Android phone. Of course, the device will be looking to take on the water proof smartphones such as the Sony Xperia Z.

The Xperia Z is one of Sony's most advanced smartphone models to date, and one of the only handsets on the market with official IP55 and IP57 certifications, making it is both dust proof and waterproof. Generally, waterproof smartphones lack high-end specifications, but this is not been the case with the Xperia Z, or indeed the Galaxy S4 Active.

The Samsung Galaxy S4 Active offers virtually the same spec list is the flagship Galaxy S4. However, only a couple of hardware features have been downgraded including the screen and camera. The camera has been downgraded from 13 megapixels to 8, and although the screen has the same 4.99 inch measurements and 1080p resolution, it utilises an LCD panel rather than a super AMOLED display.

Photos of the Galaxy S4 Active have recently been posted online in the orange and grey colour options, but recently SamMobile has posted some of the photos of the widely rumoured blue variant of the Galaxy S4 Active. Apparently, these images were originally posted on Chinese social networking website, Weibo. The device certainly offers a colourful and eye catching alternative, especially when most new smartphone models continue to be only offered in one or two colour variants such as black and white.

Aside from its screen and camera, the majority of the spec list remains the same as the flagship Galaxy S4. The Galaxy S4 Active offers a 1.9 GHz quad-core processor, 16 GB of storage with microSD slot, Android 4.2.2 Jellybean operating system and even an Aqua Mode, which allows photos and videos to be captured when the handset is submerged in water.
