According to a report, Samsung is carefully considering the price of the Samsung Galaxy Gear 2, follow-up to the Samsung Galaxy Gear. The Galaxy Gear is the Korean tech giant’s first smartwatch.

This is according to ZDNet Korea. The site reports, “Samsung Electronics is mulling over the price range of its soon to be announced next-generation watch device as a threat of a cheaper counterpart by Apple looms this year, local industry officials say.

“According to local sources Monday, the electronics giant will likely unveil the next generation watch device, tentatively called Galaxy Gear 2, at the upcoming Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.”

What is the reason Samsung is carefully considering the price of the Galaxy Gear 2? The site says, “The Galaxy Gear unveiled last year failed to catch consumer interests, which market watchers say was due to its high price range.

“The wearable was initially sold at 396,000 won ($369) since its launch last year, equivalent to low-end smartphone prices here.”

It added, “Foreign analysts predict that Apple’s upcoming competitor will cost around $299, considerably cheaper than its counterpart by Samsung.”
