The Sony Xperia Z continues to be one of the most popular smartphones on the market, as well as achieving widespread critical acclaim. The device has been one of the most successful in recent years for the Japanese manufacturer, which has been busy in the last few months releasing a number of more affordable additions to its Xperia line up. There has recently been plenty of speculation about a phablet device from Sony, and it appears that the handset may finally be on the way. Top selling Sony Xperia Z offers are on our website.

The phablet niche continues to grow in popularity, but remains dominated by the likes of the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 thanks to its 5.5 inch display, quad-core processor and S-Pen stylus, making it one of the most versatile devices on the market. Having sold millions of units since its release back in September, a number of other manufacturers have launched their own phablet devices to take on the Galaxy Note 2.

It appears that Sony may finally be launching its eagerly anticipated phablet smartphone soon. GSM Arena has recently reported that Sony has sent invitations to a press event, which takes place in Paris on the 4th of July. It is expected that the event will be used to announce and showcase the handset previously rumoured as the Togari, which the website reports is likely to be released under the name of the Sony Xperia Z Ultra. Latest Xperia Z Ultra rumours here.

The title of the phone clearly suggests that it is likely to be similar in many ways to its current flagship, but of course considerably larger. Among the key specifications of the Sony Xperia Z Ultra are believed to be a 6.44 inch HD display with a resolution of 1080p, 2 GB of RAM, 16 GB of internal storage, Snapdragon 800 chipset and 8 megapixel camera. The operating system of choice is likely to be Android 4.2 Jellybean.

Although the invitation does not explicitly reveal any information about the phone, a mystery Sony device is pictured from a side view, showing a very thin profile and dedicated camera button, hinting towards the design of the handset.

It is more than likely that more Sony Xperia Z Ultra news updates will be revealed in coming weeks, so we will keep you posted when we hear more.
