The Sony Xperia Z hit the market back in February, and quickly became one of the Japanese manufacturer’s most successful Android smartphones to date. Sales have so far exceeded 4 million units ahead of its upcoming US launch. The phone has received plenty of praise from critics and positive feedback from users of the device.

When the Sony Xperia Z first hit the market, Android 4.1 Jellybean was its operating system of choice. The handset was unveiled and showcased at CES 2013 in January, but Sony promised that an update to Android 4.2 Jellybean would be rolled out to the device shortly after its release. However, it appears that the Xperia Z has a similar fate to other handsets in Sony's line-up of Android smartphones like the Xperia S, as the update has so far remained elusive, frustrating users.

Luckily, GottaBeMobile has recently reported that new evidence points to the update coming to the Sony Xperia Z in the near future, following rumours of an upcoming firmware download. The update is set to bring a number of new features to the already feature packed handset. These include a redesigned keyboard which will support gesture based typing, PhotoSphere feature for capturing panoramic images, and a new quick settings menu and lock screen access to widgets. The Google Now application will also see a number of updates and added functionality.

Thanks to its high-end features, Sony Xperia Z is among the most advanced smartphones available. Some of its standout features include a 5 inch 1080p display, 13.1 megapixel camera and 1.5 GHz quad-core processor. The phone also looks the part thanks to its stylish design, with purple, black and white options available.

Although sales of the Xperia Z have not quite matched up to the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S4 or Apple iPhone 5, bear in mind that the handset is yet to hit the US. Additionally, the phone has also helped raise the profile of Sony Mobile in a market dominated by the likes of Apple and Samsung.
