It is no surprise that Samsung are attempting to expand the Galaxy S4 brand name following the early success that the new Samsung Galaxy S4 smartphone has achieved. The new device has clocked up 10 million sales in just 27 days and this week Samsung have confirmed two new additions to the range. The first was the new Galaxy S4 Mini and now the Korean manufacturers have announced that the S4 Active will be arriving soon.
Samsung are attempting to target different niches of the smartphone market with every Galaxy S4 handset that they introduce The new S4 Mini is a model that will appeal to consumer not wanting the bulk of a 5 inch display while the S4 Active rather predictably is aimed at the more active phone user. The model offers more protection than the standard device and will therefore strike a chord with outdoor workers and sports people. Facts on the exciting Galaxy S4 Active emerged earlier this week and it has been confirmed that the model will offer IP67 certification which means that it will be both water and dust resistant. The model is pinned for a launch in the US and Sweden to begin with but UK consumers should see the model arrive over here in the weeks following its overseas release. A number of UK companies have already shown an interest in stocking the new handset including Phones 4 U who are enabling consumer to pre register their interest prior to the model going on sale here.
Without question the key feature on the new Galaxy S4 Active is its durable body and IP67 certification. This type of functionality comes at a cost however and the new model is both heavier and thicker than the standard Samsung Galaxy S4. The new model weighs 151 grammes instead of 130 grammes and also measures deeper than the 7.9mm of the S4 at 9.1mm. Much of the other specification on the phone remains the same however. The model uses a 5 inch Super LCD Full HD screen and also sports a powerful quad core Qualcomm 600 processor which is clocked at 1.9Ghz. There is a slight downgrade in resolution on the main camera facility however with the new model capturing images at a resolution of 8 megapixels rather than 13 megapixels. Some users will feel that this is compensated for by the new Aqua mode however which will enable snaps to be taken under water. The Active Samsung GalaxyS4 is coming soon
