Oslo Airport set a new single-month passenger record in June with nearly 2.2 million passengers, representing a growth of 144 000 passengers, or 7% compared with the same month in 2012.
International flights were the source of the strongest growth, with an increase of as much as 8.4%.
“We could assume that this is because of Norwegians’ penchant for holidays in countries with better weather than we’ve had in Norway in the past few summers. The robust growth in international traffic is a good indication of this,” says Oslo Airport press spokesperson Joachim Westher Andersen.
The number of aircraft movements increased by 2.2% in June. OSL set a new passenger record for a single day on Friday the 14th of June. An impressive 86 982 passengers travelled to and from OSL on this day.
“June is generally a busy travel month for Norwegians, and it’s not surprising for the record to come this year, given the weather situation in Norway in the past few summers,” says Andersen.
In the first six months, the number of passengers at Oslo Airport has exceeded 11 million, a growth of 3.2% from last year. The largest growth was seen in international routes. The number of aircraft movements increased by 0.3% in the first six months.
An important milestone has been reached in Oslo Airport’s history as more than 250 million passengers have travelled to and from the airport since it opened on 8th of October 1998.
“An impressive number and an important milestone for Norway’s primary airport. We take it as a confirmation of trust, showing that the passengers are satisfied with what we have delivered since the opening in 1998. We will continue our work to improve even further in the future,” says Andersen.
Among the major routes, the strongest growth could be seen in the Oslo-London traffic; amounting to nearly 13%. The routes to Amsterdam, Tromsø and Trondheim also experienced strong growth, amounting to 8-9%.
In June 2012, the security personnel strike led to a loss of approx. 60 000 passengers, or 3% of total traffic.
