Peru's First Lady, Nadine Heredia has celebrated the success of a Practical Action online resource which promotes the fair trade and use of the superfood quinoa.

The quinua.pe portal supports the health and development benefits of the grain in international markets by offering small-scale producers, entrepreneurs and poor families advice and training.

The portal provides around 2,500 online resources for free download and has a very active Facebook community (https://www.facebook.com/quinuape) who share information buy and sell quinoa and exchange information about training and business opportunities.

Since the resource launch in February 2013, 1.2 million visits have been made to the web portal pages and 319,000 resources downloaded.

Nadine Heredia has supported quinoa growers throughout Peru. She said: “I am pleased to support this initiative that provides information for the benefit of more than one million Peruvians.”

The Practical Action team in Peru which runs the pages now plan to introduce an online training platform for growers and entrepreneurs and to translate some sections of the web site into English for US and UK markets.
