Brits commitment to the beautiful game was proven yet again as keen fans began booking trips to France within hours of the European Championship draw taking place.

New figures released today by travel specialists Expedia.co.uk, reveal how online searches for the host nation rose by an average of 871.6% in just 48 hours.

Over the two days following the draw, searches for flights and accommodation in the French city of Lens went up by a massive 5,183%, which will be the location of the UK derby between England and Wales on 16 June suggesting the British supporters will be out in force. It also appears the Welsh fans are showing the most enthusiasm at this early stage. Searches on Expedia UK for Toulouse, which will host the Wales vs. Russia game, also rose by 3,191% once the match was announced, making it the third most searched for stadium location.

The numbers may also indicate that Northern Ireland fans are waiting a little longer before planning their trips to France next summer when their National team plays against Poland, Ukraine and Germany. Locations for these matches – including Nice and Lyon – saw less of a change in the volume of searches over 12 and 13 December.
