Chandlers Ford, Hampshire, 25th September 2010 - For most local businesses the task at hand is survival. Yet Hampshire based author and entrepreneur Henry Baker says "There are 3 huge opportunities being missed by over 90% of local businesses”. “Increased profits come from increased number of clients; increased transaction size and increased frequency of spend. All three of those can be stimulated by regular communication.” And this is where Henry says there’s opportunity; “Most local businesses are woefully poor at collecting client and prospect details and then keeping in regular contact with them. In fact over 90% of the small and local business websites make no attempt to find out who has been browsing. That is a critical mistake.” Henry offers the following simple solution:
- Open an inexpensive email auto-responder account which allows broadcast and automatic email sending.
- Collect contact details of every client and prospect in return for something of value (not necessarily monetary) and permission to contact them. Do so in ‘store’, on the telephone, on every page of a website. Add these contacts to the email auto-responder.
- Contact them at least once a week via email using the email auto-responder. Make the email informative, personal and include an irresistible offer for a product or service. Prompt readers to forward the email to friends and family who would appreciate it. Do not make the email boring or sales only. Make sure the email shows new readers where to go to subscribe to the e-newsletter in return for your gift of value.
Henry gives an example; “Just these three simple steps executed correctly will increase client loyalty, average spend and frequency and provide any local business the opportunity to generate income on demand. A restaurant experiencing a quiet Thursday could email their list and offer two meals for the price of one from 5pm to 9pm. With a reasonable sized list that restaurant could turn a quiet Thursday into a big earner.”
