A Sign of Recovery in IT Support jobs?

Press Release   •   Feb 17, 2011 11:22 GMT

IT support jobs in London took a big hit when the economy nose dived in 2009; however, new figures released by have shown that IT support jobs numbers are beginning to rise again. Statistics for January 2011 have seen the number of IT Support jobs in London posted improving by almost a third.

At first glance this seems like great news for IT workers and a general sign of recovery in the jobs market, but Anthony Sherick of Technojobs, a leading IT jobs site warns that other factors may be influencing these results.

He states: “Seeing the number of IT Support jobs being posted in London rise is, of course, a positive sign. However it’s not a clear sign of recovery. “

He goes on to clarify: “January normally sees a slight peak in the number of jobs posted and this combined with the outsourcing regulations that came in to play at the end of 2010, could be a major underlying cause. We need to be careful not to take these statistics at face value.”

Back in December regulations were announced that ended the right of workers at outsourcing firms, bringing them in line with working conditions experienced by their co-workers in the public sector. This has stripped away some of the appeal of outsourcing in favour of in house staff.
