Air fresheners market to increase at a CAGR of 2.5%

Press Release   •   Jun 05, 2013 09:42 BST

The global air fresheners market has been forecast to increase at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 2.5% for the five-year period 2011 - 2016, rising from a valuation of $7,162.5 million in 2011, to hit a market value of $8,120.9 million by the end of 2016.

Air fresheners introduce fragrance into the air of interior spaces either as droplets which transition to vapour or as the molecules of fragrance ingredients evaporating from a source. Fragrance diffuses into the air to mask other odours or to introduce a specific odour.

There are two broad air freshener categories: continuous action and instant action. Continuous action products include: scented candles and devices which use a candle flame or some other heat source to heat and vaporise a fragrance formulation.

Instant action systems are mainly aerosol sprays, or atomisers. The aerosol spray creates a mist of droplets containing fragrance.

The air fresheners market is poised to capitalise on the growing opportunities in the market driven by changing demographic trends, the growing importance of aromatherapy in homes, and consumer preference for decorating homes with fragrant products such as candles. The market has long been driven by the rising standards of living, growing consumer affluence, and the propensity to indulgence in luxury products.

In addition, the market benefited from the evolving tendency of consumers to spend increasing amounts of time, as well as money, to create the ideal atmosphere at home.

Driven by market maturity in various parts of the world, manufacturers of air fresheners are reinventing, and extending their products a lifestyle-oriented image. The transition from simple air fresheners to air care is marked by innovations in aromatherapy, and exotic aromatic compounds.

In the past, fragrances were considered as just joss sticks, a type of incense stick that infuses fragrance when burned. However, today's fragrances range from sprays and gels, to electric plug-ins.
