Senior staff members Simon Harding-Roots, Chief Operations Officer, Jane Neary, Director of Commercial Services, Neil Mosley, Assistant Director of Commercial Services, and Paul Noke, Head of Residential Operations, each borrowed one of the 10 newly purchased bikes to take a tour of the College’s residential accommodation.
The scheme is being run by Facilities Management and Commercial Services for six weeks over the summer period, and if successful will be rolled out College-wide. Each bike comes with a helmet, a high visibility vest, lights, panniers and a bike lock.
Ellie Fielding (Commercial Services), who is running the scheme, said; “The trial for the Bike Pool has had a really positive uptake with over 30 staff members signing up. Staff have been using the scheme to get into work, but also to travel to meetings around London. The folding bikes have been particularly popular as they can be taken on trains and buses.”
One of the aims of the scheme is to get staff members who wouldn’t usually cycle to have a go. Commenting on this, Ellie said, “People who don’t normally cycle can try it out, and usually realise that cycling isn’t as scary as it seems!”
