The 9900 Bold Touch is Blackberry's latest attempt at producing the latest in business smartphones. With its attractive good looks, lightweight body, capacitive touchscreen, and the full body QWERTY keyboard that everyone knows and loves, it looks like the designers have truly outdone themselves. Is it right for everyone, though? Read on to find out!
Slim and slender at 100g, the Bold Touch has sophisticated good looks. It combines quality black plastic with metallic accents to create a small, compact little phone that is eyecatching enough to stand out in both professional and social settings. Its full QWERTY keyboard is amazingly built as well, with well defined keys that respond wonderfully.
Its 2.8 inch capacitive touchscreen, while bright and vivid, is a bit on the small side. Its Blackberry 7 operating system, however, matches wonderfully with the phone. We can see significant improvements when it comes to speed and overall user friendliness. Its multi-touch technology makes navigating the phone fun and efficient.
The Bold Touch has a lot in terms of music related features, including a 3.5 mm headphone jack, a great media player, and a strong set of speakers. Also included is a preset equaliser, background playback options, and album art covers. You can also create filters according to artists, genres, albums, and more. All in all, the sound quality is quite good for both music and for making calls, with no signs of distortion. With 8GB of memory, plus 32 additional GB of external memory, you should have more than enough room for storing songs as well.
We were interested in its five megapixel camera as well. Featuring a LED flash, an image stabiliser, face detection, geo-tagging, digital zoom, and a slew of photo editing features, this phone goes above and beyond getting the perfect shot. Its 720p HD video recording capapbilities are also top notch, resulting in smooth, crisp footage. Our only complaint is that its LED flash tends to wash out photos slightly; a Xenon flash would have likely been a better alternative.
Staying online isn't difficult at all with the Bold Touch. Equipped with 3G HDSPA, HSUPA, Bluetooth 2.1, wi-fi, EDGE, GPRS, and more. As with any Blackberry, you can rest assured that all of its stellar email related features are well accounted for. Its series of contact lists, tidy organisation, and inbox integration makes this a perfect phone for both business and social endeavours. Combine this with its array of social networking widgets, games, and other goodies and you have a great phone for staying connected. We do wish it was Flash compatible, however, but in the long run this is a small loss. With roughly six hours of talk time and 307 hours of standby, you should have a good amount of time between charges to enjoy yourself, especially if you disable battery draining features such as wi-fi.
The Blackberry 9900 Bold Touch is a phone that's definitely worth consideration. Fast, fun, and attractive, it has a plethora of pleasing features. Just remember, when you get this phone, make sure that you find very inviting and cost-efficient Blackberry 9900 Bold Touch contracts.
