Brazilian footwear market producing over 800 million pairs per year

The Brazilian footwear market is the third largest producer of footwear in the world, with over 800 million pairs produced per year. There are more than 8,000 establishments dedicated to the manufacture of shoes and about 330,000 jobs.

Key areas of manufacturing in Brazil include: Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina, Sao Paulo and Minas Gerais.

Versatility, fashion, style and comfort have created a high demand for footwear which provides better performance and strong appeal in terms of style and looks.

The industry is incredibly strong when it comes to environmental responsibilities and human and social rights, keeping up a good standard of working conditions and wages.

Brazilian shoe manufacturers invest in state-of-the-art machinery and equipment, using only high-quality raw materials, supplied mostly within the Brazilian domestic market itself.

In the first two months of 2013, Brazilian shoe exports decreased by0.9% (from US$200,2 million to $198,4 million) compared with the same period in 2012. However, the number of pairs of shoes exported increased 2.3% (from 23 million to 23.5million pairs).

In recent years, online portals have become an important channel of sales for footwear. Online portals have gained popularity, especially among the youth on account of considerable exposure to technology and the internet.

The deluge of upcoming events such as the FIFA World Cup in 2014 and Olympics in 2016 will drive the demand of apparels and footwears tremendously. Along with aggressive sales of football related apparels and footwears, the revenues from the overall apparel and footwear market in Brazil are likely to witness a stupendous incline during the time of the world cup.

Several manufacturers have already started preparations for the upcoming football world cup in terms of introducing new products and tweaking their marketing campaigns for the event. 

These activities are expected to intensify in the coming months and provide a significant impetus to the sales of athletic apparels and footwear in Brazil.
