The Brazilian full-service restaurant market has been forecast to experience constant value sales increase at a 5% compound annual growth rate (CAGR) to register growth of 28% between 2012 and 2017, driven by sales of the largest categories such as other full-service restaurants, Latin American full-service restaurants and pizza full-service restaurants.
Such categories should account for 83% of total value sales in 2017 with other full-service restaurants alone representing 60% of total sales of full-service restaurants in that year.
A positive factor favouring the category in 2012 was related to the more accessible rental fees, which were no longer skyrocketing compared with the fees seen in 2011. The improved rental fees impacting positively on the opening of new full-service restaurant outlets.
Chained Latin American and chained North American full-service restaurants were the most dynamic categories with current value rises in 2012. Both categories saw double-digit growth in their number of outlets.
In addition, chained North American brands like Outback Steakhouse and Applebee's Neighborhood Grill & Bar are increasingly popular amongst young consumers who enjoy the different decor and ambience for meeting with friends.
The Brazilian full-service restaurants market is dominated by large international casual dining chains, such as Outback Steakhouse, Applebee's Neighborhood Grill & Bar and Pizza Hut, which accounted for a combined 44% value share in 2012.
Outback Steakhouse outperformed other full-service restaurant brands in 2012 with a three percentage point increase in current value share between 2011 and 2012.
The other two players lost relative participation in 2012 thanks to the significant advance from the leader.
