The Programme is one of the European Union’s Lifelong Learning Programmes which has been established to promote inter-University co-operation and in particular student mobility. It enables higher education students to study or do a work placement for typically three to 12 months in one of 30 other European countries as part of a degree course.
Most recently, C&K have welcomed a new exchange student from The Basque Country, Gorka Ansola. Ansola will be spending 12 weeks with the company’s TV maintenance team in Glasgow, assisting with live works on integrated reception systems for C&K clients. This placement will contribute towards his Telecommunication and Computer Systems studies at Lea Artibai Ikastetxea, a technical high school and university non-profit cooperative in The Basque Country.
Cumbernauld College in Glasgow, which offers courses ranging from catering to engineering, has recently been awarded a gold award in the Equality and Diversity category at the prestigious Scotland’s Colleges Awards as well as a Gold Investors in People award winning institution. The institution has been involved in the Lifelong learning Programme for more than 12 years and sends more than 100 students on work placement every year funded by the European Union.
Jim O’Donnell, External Funding Manager at the College said “These exchange programmes allow young people in Europe to participate in a realistic work experience linked to their learning programme. With the invaluable support from companies such as C&K they are able to enhance both their vocational qualification and employability, as well as learning about the culture of the host country and making new friends”.
Campbell & Kennedy, who also provide solar PV installations, electrical contracting services and fire safety equipment installations, are well placed to provide Ansola with great experience given that they have been in the TV installation industry for over 60 years now and are the Sky Homes Approved Agent in Scotland for BSkyB.
Gerry Kennedy, Managing director of Campbell & Kennedy said, “It’s important for companies like ours to get involved in programmes like this. We want to support our local colleges, after all, we want to be taking on the next generation of engineers and want them to have the best training possible.”
