Notes to Editors:
* Saint David was known as a great teacher and revered for performing miracles. He died in 589 allegedly on 1 March and his shrine can be found in St David’s Cathedral. St David was also responsible for the tradition of wearing leeks. According to legend, the soldiers of the ancient British king, Cadwaladyr, were about to fight their traditional enemy, the Saxons and St David advised the Welsh to wear a leek in order to recognise their fellow countrymen during the battle.
