China and India set to drive growth within the home media servers market

The home media servers market has been forecast to reach an industry value of US$141.3 billion by 2018, driven by the robust increase in volumes of digital entertainment content at home and the growing desire among consumers to access the same content from multiple devices.

A media server refers either to a dedicated computer appliance or to a specialised application software, ranging from an enterprise class machine providing video on demand, to, more commonly, a small personal computer or NAS (Network Attached Storage) for the home, dedicated for storing various digital media (meaning digital videos/movies, audio/music, and picture files).

Asia-Pacific has been forecast to emerge as the fastest growing market with a projected compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 34.6% through to 2018, led by China and India.

Key factors driving growth in this region include huge population; rising disposable incomes; growing consumer affluence; adoption of high-end electronics such as smartphones, notebooks; increasing broadband Internet subscriptions; and surging deployment of home network.
