In 2013, the China plywood manufacturing market is expected to generate $70.1 billion, representing annualized growth of 20.8% for the past five years. The industry's enterprise numbers are set to total 4,058, growing 3.2% annually since 2008. Employment is expected to total over 512,600 within the industry for the year, with an estimated payroll of $2.6 billion.
Exports played an important role in the development of the industry until 2007 when anti-dumping policies in the United States and the European Union hindered China's plywood export growth. Exports accounted for 25.0% of industry revenue in 2007 but only an estimated 7.9% in 2013 or $5.53 billion.
Increased international environmental protection standards, such as limiting formaldehyde levels, and export rebate reductions in recent years, have also contributed to lower export levels.
