Communities Pool Talent Resources To Create Zombie Movie

Press Release   •   Jun 20, 2013 20:27 BST

Death Walks is a new horror movie with a production value of £250,000, being achieved for free with the aid of the filmmaking, and film loving community.

Director and screenwriter Spencer Hawken said "It all started to fall into place when The Mercury Mall's owners gave me permission to shoot the movie in their centre. What followed was a tour d'force of support, we have an outstanding cast much of which is sourced of local talent, an excellent group of camera operators, security, catering, and people who simply want to get involved in the project, all giving their valuable time free of charge."

Spencer continues "We hear a lot about crowd funding, or going to the big players to raise money, Death Walks is being achieved by extremely talented individuals who simply cannot make their mark on the movie industry, so we are creating a new option, resource funding. It's amazing what people will be prepared to give in order to get a step up the ladder, and hopefully the 250+ strong cast and crew will see their investment of time rewarded."

Death Walks is set in a shopping centre after hours, a group of staff find themselves trapped by a malevolent group of zombies who take pleasure in taunting them, before using stealth to pick them off one by one. Spencer promises that the movie will not be like any existing zombie movie, stating that in order to achieve a fanbase you need to move the evolutionary wheel on. "Zombies in a shopping centre could very easily just be another Dawn Of The Dead style film, you need to do something different, go places you never expected to go, and scare your audience in the process."

Marcus Uthup, Director Of Photography states “The movie has some revolutionary ideas, it’s story twists and turns are mind-blowing. And to get all this support is phenomenal, we have the makings of a blockbuster on our hands, thanks to everyone giving their time on the project.”

Filming is to begin on July 15th, with a release date to the various global festivals of January 2014.
