A recent study by VoucherBuddy.co.uk has found that holidaymakers are looking for a cheaper alternative for their summer holiday break as the recession starts to bite hard at everyone’s spending this year. Many folk who would normally opt for a summer trip abroad are now hoping for a half decent weather outlook going into the spring and beyond to make the camping holiday a half decent alternative.
Some may see a camping holiday as lugging around a bucket of cold water and eating beans out of a jerry can – some people are so out of touch! Most of the sites that provide tent pitches are far from that reality, they are generally clean and comfortable environments with warm and bright washing facilities. Some parks come with bars, restaurants and entertainment or if you’re just looking for a quite holiday you can find simple but clean sites where you can relax and enjoy your break.
Camping in the UK starts from as little as £7 per person per night. You quite often have to pay for a each car on site but some parks may choose to charge just per person it depends on the individual pricing policy, but do shop around as you would with any other break as the prices do vary from park to park. Some sites may be almost double the price but offer no more in the way of facilities or cleanliness.
Choosing a tent is an individual choice but I would say that if you’ve got children it may be worth going for slightly larger especially with the living area as there’s nothing worse than being cramped up if it’s raining, having a little more space to move can be a godsend in these situations. Most camp sites allow barbeques on stands but most frown upon open fires as they can be a fire hazard. Don’t forget a mallet for the tent pegs and a peg puller can be a handy tool when taking down the tent at the end of your stay.
A pitch with an electric point can be convenient for lighting, cooking and to plug in appliances however it’s not essential and can add cost to the daily tariffs.
With some great discount camping deals to take advantage of in the run up to the spring it’s a great time to stock up on everything you’ll need to have a great break and get away from it all without bursting the bank.
