Department of Health: Statistical press notice - NHS inpatient and outpatient waiting times figures - 31st January 2010

Main Points This Month

Inpatient Waiting times

·          The number of patients, for whom English commissioners are responsible, waiting over the 26 weeks standard at the end of January 2010 was 52.

·          The number of patients, for whom English commissioners are responsible, waiting over 13 weeks at the end of January 2010 was 67,700 an increase of 10,100 (17.5%) from December 2009, and a rise of 22,100 (48.4%) from January 2009.

·          The percentage of patients waiting under 13 weeks was 89.3%, compared to 90.8% in December 2009 and 92.1% in January 2009.  The median waiting time of those still waiting at the end of January 2010 was 5.0 weeks.

Outpatient Waiting times

·          The number of patients, for whom English commissioners are responsible, waiting over the 13 weeks standard for a first outpatient appointment following GP referral at the end of January 2010 was 143.

·          The number of patients, for whom English commissioners are responsible, waiting over 8 weeks at the end of January 2010 was 74,100, which is the same as December 2009, and a rise of 28,200 (61.5%) from January 2009.

·          The percentage of patients waiting under 8 weeks was 91.9%, compared to 92.0% in December 2009 and 94.3% in January 2009. The median waiting time of those still waiting at the end of January 2010 was 2.5 weeks.
