DONG Energy wins prestigious energy award

DONG Energy has won the 2008 Petroleum Economist Cleaner Energy Initiative award.

DONG Energy has won the 2008 Petroleum Economist Cleaner Energy Initiative award. The Danish company won the award ahead of a number of international power companies on the back of its achievements in the so-called Castor project, which involves capturing and separating CO2 from power production flue gases.

DONG Energy is at the forefront when it comes to know-how in the field of capturing CO2 from flue gases – the Carbon Capture component of the so-called CCS process; Carbon Capture and Storage. Receiving the Petroleum Economist award in the category Cleaner Energy Initiative of the Year 2007, DONG Energy further consolidates its position as one of the leading power companies in this business area.

“The award is a clear indication of our ranking among the world’s leading companies in the development of clean power plant technologies. It also demonstrates that our project draws much international attention,” says Anders Eldrup, CEO of DONG Energy.

DONG Energy is continuing its efforts to develop flue gas purification technologies and now also aims to reduce the amount of power consumed in the purification process. This work is ongoing at DONG Energy’s CO2 capture pilot facility at the Esbjerg Power Plant.

“We’ve achieved some very fine results in the Castor project and we intend to capitalise on them in order to optimise our future processes and implement the solutions in de-facto power production. At our CO2 capture pilot facility at the Esbjerg Power Plant, we have a unique research platform that gives DONG Energy an edge over its peers,” Anders Eldrup says.

The award was granted for the third consecutive year by the peer-reviewed magazine Petroleum Economist.
