Experts gather for Vital Well Intervention Conference

Press Release   •   Oct 25, 2010 16:11 BST

Experts will gather in Aberdeen next month [November] for what many see as vital discussions on sustaining the North Sea oil and gas industry.

Specialists in well intervention from the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Aberdeen Section and the Intervention and Coiled Tubing Association (ICoTA) European Chapter will hold their 16th annual SPE ICoTA European Well Intervention Round Table on 17th and 18th November at Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre.

Callum Munro, BP, chair of the Round Table, said “We believe well intervention is vitally important in sustaining our mature oil and gas industry. This round table brings together experts from SPE and ICoTA to share their intervention knowledge for the benefit of all.

“This year’s conference features a multitude of differing technologies and case histories across several well intervention disciplines. In short the conference has something for everyone! Increased light well intervention (LWI) capability using enhanced vessels for coiled tubing deployment will be of great interest to those operating and maintaining sub sea fields. Data acquisition during well intervention work is increasingly becoming a 'must have' for engineers and this is reflected in several presentations involving coiled tubing and composite rod applications.

“Well integrity is a vital part of well management and the Round Table addresses this in its pre-conference course, and also gives an insight into how well integrity is managed by a major independent oil company, Tullow Oil.”

In an exhibition of services and technologies for the well intervention industry which has grown every year over the last five, delegates can view cutting-edge offerings from the service sector. Among the global presences like Baker Hughes and the NOV group of companies are smaller and newer names from Norway, UK and USA.

David Heslop, Vice President, Wells, Talisman Energy (UK) Limited will deliver the Keynote Address to open the event. He will give an operator’s view of the strategic role of well intervention in the maturing oil and gas industry.
