Success for Vision Express at this year’s PRCA DARE Awards in Birmingham

National optical retailer Vision Express has scooped the top prize at this year’s Midlands PRCA DARE Awards – its third win of the year for its ground-breaking Vision Van.

The awards ceremony, held at the Fazeley Studios in Birmingham on Wednesday 4 July and hosted by presenter Connor Phillips, saw Vision Express earn the top prize in the Charity/Not for Profit category, in recognition of its record-breaking World Glaucoma Week 2017 Vision Van tour.

Teaming up with charity partner the International Glaucoma Association (IGA) to put the spotlight on glaucoma, the biggest cause of preventable sight loss in the UK, Vision Express targeted eye health hotspots around England and Scotland, offering free eye tests to the public from its Vision Van.

In the week following the tour, the national optical retailer logged a record number of online bookings, demonstrating a real need for the initiative.

Vision Express first rolled out a Vision Van in 2014 in a bid to drive home the importance of maintaining regular sight checks and improving the eye health of the nation. Due to the popularity of the initiative, Vision Express made the decision to invest in a permanent Vision Van, which launched in March 2018 in celebration of the optician’s 30 years of trading.

Jonathan Lawson, CEO of Vision Express, said: “The work we do with the Vision Van is absolutely unique and it is a vital tool in helping us target eye health hot spots around the UK and Ireland. It takes a lot of hard work and commitment to get the Vision Van on the road, so it’s fantastic for the team to be recognised for its achievements at the PRCA DARE Awards.

“Our brand-new vehicle will allow us to continue to take the eye test on the road, making vision care more accessible and boosting detection rates for sight-stealing conditions, including glaucoma.”
