If one car sums up the spirit of the ‘Pride & Joy’ charity car auction at CarFest then surely it’s a 1975 MGB GT Jubilee which has been owned by the same family nearly 40 years.
Originally bought in 1975, some 11 years later it was presented by the original owner to his son as a 21st birthday present, but only after it had been given a full re-spray in honour of the occasion.
Nick Whale, managing director, Silverstone Auctions, said: “This is the first time that this car has been offered for sale since it left the showroom some 37 years ago and not surprisingly it comes with an amazing history file outlining its story.
“Of course, we would be delighted for this car to go to another loving home but equally important is that it will be helping raise money for BBC Children in Need.”
The Jubilee model, in green with a yellow stripe, was made to celebrate MG's own 50th Anniversary (1925 - 1975). According to the owner, only 750 were produced and they were available as numbered, limited editions of which 450 went straight to the United States in left hand drive form.
This particular model is estimated at between £5,500 to £7,500 and comes complete with some spares and a wealth of receipts.
It has covered only 78,813 miles, at the time of entry, and is being sold with a full MOT and road fund licence.
“Any MGB devotee would be delighted to get behind the wheel of this Jubilee edition. Equally, it’s just as appealing for anyone who is looking to own a car and discover the camaraderie and excitement of classic car ownership for the first time. It’s a fitting entry to the auction, especially as MGB celebrates its 50th anniversary this year.”
