Ford Focus Tops Call out Calls for Asda Money Breakdown

Press Release   •   Jun 18, 2013 17:37 BST

Asda Money reveals that the Ford Focus and the Ford Fiesta took the 1st and 2nd place respectively, in a ranking of the top 20 vehicles by logged claims for Asda Money Breakdown from December 1st 2012 to March 31st 2013.

The Ford Focus made up 5% of total claims for the above period, followed by the Ford Fiesta (4.2%) and the Vauxhall Astra (also at 4.2%).

In light of these figures, Asda Money highlights some of the factors that drivers should consider before investing in their next model.

Investigate car failure rates

Recent research on the reliability of cars from 36 leading vehicle manufacturers, revealed that eight out of ten of the most reliable car brands were Japanese, with Honda (10%), Toyota (17%) and Lexus (18%) taking the top three places in terms of having the lowest failure rates1.

Identifying the model’s that have a lower record of breakdowns, whilst not guaranteeing that cars will be road worthy all year-round, will certainly help give drivers an indication of one aspect of a vehicle’s performance.

Factor in average repair costs

Although the average call-out charge for vehicles stands at around £100 plus a charge of £1 per mile2, average repair costs can vary from model to model. As an example figures show that average repair charges come in at £254 for a Fiat while this figure can climb to as much as £623 for a Porsche1.

Factoring in average repair costs to the overall costs of a car, including purchase prices, Vehicle Excise Duty (VED) or road tax, additional specs etc will help drivers to decide if the car they are considering purchasing falls within their budget.

Putting car breakdown cover in place will ensure that drivers are covered in the event of a breakdown irrespective of which model they drive.

Asda Breakdown Cover starts from just £70 a year and includes home start, roadside assistance and UK recovery as standard.
