Gas price postcode lottery revealed

Press Release   •   Nov 01, 2011 11:49 GMT

Businesses and consumers are paying more for their gas and electricity depending on where in the country they live, according to a new study.

Research from a domestic and commercial gas comparison website has found that some of the energy providers are charging gas users in certain areas of the country considerably more than in other regions.

The biggest price differences came from E.ON; customers in Brighton are paying an average of £984 a year whereas someone using the same amount of gas and on the same tariff in London would pay £1,164 – £180 more a year.

On average, domestic and commercial gas customers in Cardiff are paying the most for their energy whereas being located in Brighton, Leeds or Edinburgh will see you have lower energy costs.

These discrepancies are due to a marketing practice used by the big name energy companies who will offer lower prices in regions where they have less of a market share and higher prices in the areas where they are most successful. This was used for most standard tariffs until the regulator Ofgem stopped it, but the energy providers are still allowed to do this for their online prices.

With business gas prices now costing more than ever before it is vital that companies ensure they are on the cheapest tariff for their requirements. Comparing energy prices can be very time-consuming and if you’ve got a business to run you won’t have the time to enter your details on numerous sites.

This is where Business Gas can help you. You simply enter your details, the website searches and compares a number of different tariffs and you can then choose which saves you the most money! It’s quick and easy, so you can don’t have to spend large amounts of your valuable time to reduce your energy prices.
