Global amnesia therapeutics market to grow at a CAGR of 3.5%

Press Release   •   Aug 16, 2012 12:30 BST

The global amnesia therapeutics market has been forecast to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 3.5% over the next eight years, increasing from a market value of £112 million recorded in 2011, to be worth $147 million by 2019.

Growth within the amnesia therapeutics market can be primarily attributed to the increase in the general population and diagnosis rate across the seven major markets (the US, the UK, Japan, Germany, Spain, Italy and France).

Amnesia is a condition in which one's memory is lost. The memory can be either wholly or partially lost due to the extent of damage that was caused.

The global amnesia therapeutics market currently has no approved drugs for the treatment of the condition. Drugs such as benzodiazepines, Selective Serotonin Re-uptake Inhibitors (SSRIs) are commonly prescribed to address symptoms of anxiety and depression in amnesia patients. However, these drugs only focus on improving the patient's quality of life rather than the treatment of amnesia.

Vitamins are an option that should be considered when looking at the treatment of amnesia. Such vitamins are not designed to cure amnesia but, instead, keep the brain organically healthy to improve memory function when short term memory returns.

Vitamin B6 and folic acid are two of the most common vitamins for memory loss. Much like the vitamin supplementation recommended to pregnant women, these two vitamins are crucial to neurological development. In older adults, these two vitamins can assist in keeping the brain healthy during times of illness or when exposed to injury, disease, or other toxins.
