Global microscopes market: $5.4 billion industry forecast by 2018

The global microscopes market and related accessories industry is suggested to have reached a value of around $3.8 billion at the end of 2012, and is estimated to reach a total of over $4 billion during 2013. By 2018, the industry is forecast to hit a value of $5.4 billion, and is suggested to grow at a CAGR growth rate of around 6% between 2013 and 2018.

The fastest-growing segment of the global microscopes market is scanning probe microscopes, with a CAGR of 10% between 2013 and 2018. Charged particle microscopes have a projected CAGR of 6.8%, and optical microscopes 4.7%.

As a result, charged particle microscopes are projected to increase their market share from 41.7% in 2012 to 43.4% in 2018. Optical microscopes are projected to lose market share, from 39.1% in 2012 to 36.6% in 2018, while scanning probe microscopes' share is projected to grow from 5.9% to 7.1%.
