Press Release   •   Nov 26, 2011 14:58 GMT

HTC have recently released the new Sensation XL. This large screen device offers a wealth of multi media facilities together with a superb web browser and an eye catching design. One aspect of this phone that is often overlooked is its excellent maps facility which effectively turns the model into a mobile satellite navigation system. Here we look at this feature in a little more detail.

The HTC Sensation XL incorporates a GPS receiver which enables a host of excellent facilities to be used on this model. The Android operating system includes the excellent Google Maps service and this combines perfectly with the GPS to help you find your way around various locations. The system works in numerous countries and if you find yourself in a country without a map available then this can be downloaded free of charge. The handset gives you voice guided navigation to a destination of your choice. Simple enter the details of your desired location and the phone will guide you towards this destination with clear and concise spoken instructions. Thanks to the built in GPS the handset always knows your current location and this is what makes this navigation system so accurate. If you are on foot rather than travelling in a vehicle you may find the excellent Street View more useful as it converts the map into a 3D landscape that enables you to see everything that is currently around you. The maps facility also highlights local points of interest which is great if you are undertaking a spot of sight seeing.

In addition to Google Maps the HTC Sensation XLalso features the excellent HTC Locations facility. Both of these systems are very similar although the HTC service does not include voice navigation for free but it is available at a cost should you need it. What is slightly more useful about this feature is that it gives you a better view than the Google service as it enables you to see further ahead and therefore have more warning of approaching turns and junctions. There are both 2D and 3D views available of all maps and they also includes local points of interest. This service also works with the superb HTC Footprints feature which enables you to store information about your favourite places. Photographs, notes and address details are all stored and these will then show on the map when one of these footprints is within your vicinity.

The HTC Sensation XL offers some superb features which include the excellent navigation services that we have mentioned above. These will prove useful for a business person who travels around frequently and also the average consumer who made find themselves in need of directions.

The HTC Sensation XL and the iPhone 4 8GB are available now
