The brainchild of former international athlete and leading coach Jim Cowan, the Poppy Run will take place at Nottingham Forest Football Club starting at 11.00 a.m. on Sunday 28th October and at many other venues throughout the country.
Jim, who has devised and launched a number of hugely successful charity events including the UK’s largest participation event, the Race for Life, said: “I felt that the charity could benefit from its very own fun run. The British Legion is now the UK’s second favourite charity and safeguards the welfare, interests and memory of those who are serving or who have served in the Armed Forces. “
The non-competitive runs will be open for all sections of the community to enter and run, jog or even walk the 5km routes.
Each Poppy Run will be organised by a local organiser, coordinated and supported centrally by Cowan Global and participants will be able to enter online or by post and will all be encouraged to raise funds for the Poppy Appeal by raising sponsorship from friends, family and work colleagues. All finishers will receive a souvenir medal and those raising over £250 will receive an exclusive ‘250 club’ Poppy Run T-shirt.
Jim, who runs a successful events company called Cowan Global Events, added: “The Poppy Run will increase the number of events and venues each year with a target of a minimum of 100 Poppy Runs taking place in 2015 with participant numbers potentially totalling 50-100,000+
Thus the Poppy Run will soon become an important part of local event calendars up and down the country while presenting a highly visible national profile for the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal and for our corporate partners.”
Local organiser Alison Rouse said: “The Poppy Appeal is for a great cause and we all know someone who is currently serving who has served in the Armed Forces.”
