"Ensuring an optimised on-site generation and energy procurement strategy" is the title of a seminar to be presented by ENER-G at The Energy Event, NEC Birmingham. The seminar will take place on 11 September (12.30 to 1pm) at the ESTA Theatre.
Failing to consider your energy procurement when investing in CHP could reduce your return on investment. ENER-G will talk delegates through the key requirements to ensure an efficient CHP
installation and complementary energy purchasing strategy .
When CHP is installed it affects a company’s demand for both gas and electricity from the network. By generating energy efficient electricity and heat off-grid, CHP owners’ demand for network electricity drops, whilst gas consumption (as the primary input fuel for CHP) increases. In addition, actual CHP operating hours can vary from initial plans, again upsetting network demand.
In these cases, organisations can be exposed to financial penalties as power and gas consumptions swing in and out of contractual tolerance bands.
For organisations selling excess power, negotiating a competitive export contract with a suitable supplier is also crucial.
