Jenny Agutter has again pledged to support Action for Children’s Byte Night for an amazing 11th time to help raise funds for young homeless people and increase awareness about Child Neglect.
Friday October 8th 2010 will mark the 12th instalment of Action for Children’s annual Byte Night Campaign, where hundreds of individuals and teams representing some of the UKs biggest companies will take part.
The aim of Byte Night is to increase awareness surrounding the issue of youth homelessness and child neglect in the UK, and has come a long way since its inception 12 years ago. Back then, 30 individuals from the IT industry slept out and raised £35,000. Since then the event has grown to over 700 sleepers raising almost £550,000 in 2009 alone.
This year, Jenny Agutter and our many other supporters will be hoping to beat last year’s record and help change the course of young lives in the UK. Upon confirmation of her attendance, Jenny had this to say: “I feel it’s the least I can do to help raise much needed funds, and profile, for young homeless people. One night can be uncomfortable, particularly if it’s cold and wet, but I can go home afterwards to a warm and comfortable home. Sadly, young homeless people don’t have this luxury and have to sleep out, night after night, in bad weather and often in dangerous locations.”
Action for Children’s services work hard to tackle the root cause of homelessness, a problem which affects around 75,000 children and young people each year.
